development firm based in Pietermaritzburg,
KwaZulu-Natal, dedicated to empowering
township and rural entrepreneurs through
tailored support services. With a strong focus
on enterprise and supplier development,
Mapema Consulting bridges the gap between
ambition and sustainable success for small,
micro, and medium enterprises (SMMEs).

Founded on the belief that small businesses are the backbone of economic growth, Mapema Consulting exists to reduce the high failure rate of startups—especially in underserved communities—by offering practical, hands-on solutions that foster resilience, innovation, and profitability.

It is against this background that Mapema Consulting was established to assist the large community of existing and new small business owners and entrepreneurs in the townships and rural areas, to improve their success rate. The company has also established a Graduate Entrepreneurship Program (GEP) aimed at assisting TVET college graduates to establish their businesses during their final years of study. The company seeks to achieve this by offering enterprise and supplier development programs, business management training, mentorship, and coaching services. These services support business owners to establish, maintain and grow their businesses successfully.

With over a decade of experience spanning supply chain management, procurement, business consulting, and enterprise & supplier development (ESD), Siyabonga has built a reputation for delivering impactful solutions that bridge corporate strategy with grassroots transformation.

His career journey includes procurement manager and ESD practitioner, where he championed inclusive growth and sustainable business practices.
He is the founder and director of Mapema Consulting, a forward-thinking firm focused on:

He is a proud member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS), which
keeps him at the forefront of global supply chain trends and best practices. His
academic credentials include a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the
University of KwaZulu-Natal Graduate School of Business, as well as an Honours Bachelor
of Commerce degree with a specialisation in Supply Chain Management and Post-Grad
Diploma in Policy & Development, all these obtained from the University of KwaZulu-
Natal.

Siyabonga’s work is driven by a deep belief in Africa’s potential and a personal mission
to contribute to a prosperous, self-determined continent. Whether mentoring young
entrepreneurs or designing scalable development programs, he continues to write a
story of impact, resilience, and transformation—one community at a time.
